Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent.
  • Add diced carrots and cook for a few minutes until they start to soften.
  • Add minced garlic and ground lamb/beef. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through.
  • Stir in tomato paste and cook for a minute to incorporate.
  • Pour in the beef or vegetable broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in frozen peas and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  1. Assemble the Pie:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture into a baking dish. Spread it out evenly.
  1. Add Mashed Potatoes:
  • Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture. Use a fork to spread the mashed potatoes evenly and create a decorative pattern on top.
  1. Bake the Pie:
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden brown on top.
  1. Serve:
  • Remove the Shepherd’s Pie from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
