Here’s a simple recipe for a smash burger taco
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 small flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup diced pickles
- Ketchup and mustard, for drizzling
- Vegetable oil (for cooking)
Instructions:
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over high heat. Make sure it’s really hot, as you want to achieve a good sear on the burgers.
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into balls. Season each ball with salt and pepper.
- Place a tortilla on the hot skillet and let it heat for about 30 seconds to a minute until it starts to puff up slightly. Flip it and repeat on the other side. Remove the tortilla and set it aside.
- Place one of the beef balls onto the hot skillet. Use a spatula to smash it down into a thin patty. Cook for about 2 minutes or until the edges turn crispy and brown. Flip the patty and cook for another 1-2 minutes for medium-rare or longer for your preferred level of doneness.
- While the patty is cooking, prepare your toppings. Combine lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and cheese in separate bowls.
- Once the patty is done, transfer it to a plate. Repeat the smashing and cooking process for the remaining beef balls.
- To assemble the smash burger tacos, place a cooked tortilla on a plate. Lay a smash burger patty in the center.
- Top the patty with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, onions, pickles, and cheddar cheese.
- Drizzle ketchup and mustard over the toppings.
- Fold the tortilla in half, and your smash burger taco is ready to enjoy!
