A recipe for delicious homemade smash burgers:
Ingredients:
For the Burger Patties:
- 1 pound ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat, for best flavor)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Sliced American cheese (optional)
For the Burger Toppings:
- Burger buns
- Sliced onions
- Sliced pickles
- Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise (or your favorite burger sauces)
- Lettuce, tomato, and any other desired toppings
Instructions:
Preparing the Burger Patties:
- Divide the ground beef into equal portions, about 2 to 4 ounces each, depending on how big you want your burgers.
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over high heat. Make sure it’s really hot; this is essential for a good sear.
- While the skillet is heating, season each portion of ground beef with salt and pepper. You can also use your favorite burger seasoning.
- Place a portion of the ground beef onto the hot skillet. Using a spatula or burger press, immediately press down on the meat to flatten it thinly. This is the “smash” part of smash burgers.
- Allow the meat to cook for about 2 minutes, or until the edges turn crispy and brown. If adding cheese, place a slice on top of each patty.
- Use your spatula to scrape up the patties and flip them. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted (if using) and the burgers are cooked to your desired level of doneness. For medium, cook to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
Assembling the Smash Burgers:
- Toast the burger buns on the skillet or griddle until they are slightly crispy and brown.
- Assemble your smash burgers by placing the patties on the bottom bun. Add sliced onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and any other toppings you like.
- Drizzle with ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or your favorite burger sauces.
- Place the top bun on your assembled burger.
- Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your homemade smash burgers!
These smash burgers are known for their crispy edges and juicy interiors, making them a favorite for burger enthusiasts. Customize your toppings to your preference and savor the deliciousness!
