Classic Grinder Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 1 Italian sub roll or baguette
  • Deli meats (such as ham, turkey, salami, or roast beef)
  • Sliced cheese (such as provolone or Swiss)
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the Italian sub roll or baguette horizontally, but not all the way through, so it forms a pocket.
  3. Layer the deli meats and sliced cheese inside the roll, alternating between the two.
  4. Add lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, and pickles (if desired) on top of the meat and cheese.
  5. Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the inside of the top half of the roll.
  6. Sprinkle some salt and pepper over the sandwich filling.
  7. Close the sandwich by pressing the top half onto the bottom half, gently pressing the ingredients together.
  8. Wrap the grinder sandwich tightly in aluminum foil.
  9. Place the foil-wrapped sandwich in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the bread becomes slightly crispy.
  10. Remove the grinder sandwich from the oven and carefully unwrap it from the foil.
  11. Slice the sandwich into smaller portions, if desired, and serve it warm.
