Ingredients:
- 8 ounces (225g) pasta (spaghetti, penne, or any other variety you prefer)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (14 ounces/400g) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 ounces/170g) tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, chopped (optional, for garnish)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the saucepan, and stir well to combine with the onion and garlic. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasonings according to your preference.
- Add the cooked pasta to the saucepan with the red sauce, and toss until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat the pasta through.
- Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired. Serve hot, and top with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Enjoy your delicious red sauce pasta!
